In recent years, urban smog has become more and more serious, and our air pollution has become more and more serious. How about dealing with car exhaust emissions, process waste gas, etc., and those that harm our environment and pollute our air? Today we will talk about ten reasons that affect our air:
1. Humans breathe 11,000 liters of air (388 cubic feet) every day. The more exercise, the more air they breathe.
2. The US Environmental Protection Agency pointed out that indoor air quality is one of the five major environmental hazards that endanger public health.
3. Even most people in developed countries do not realize that the degree of indoor air pollution may even be more serious than outdoors.
4. Common indoor air pollutants include dust, pollen, mold, dust mites, carbon dioxide, radon, smoke from smoking and furniture, cleaning supplies, and other sources of chemicals such as incense.
5. European and American health authorities point out that indoor air pollution is two to five times as serious as outdoor air pollution (even up to 100 times in the worst case).
6. The WHO and other health agencies warn that indoor pollution can cause many diseases, including lung disease, respiratory infections, asthma and lung cancer.
7. Nearly two million people died prematurely because of indoor air pollution caused by the use of solid fuels at home, which caused diseases.
8. Nearly half of the deaths of children with pneumonia under the age of five are due to inhalation of suspended particulates in the indoor air.
9. Due to indoor air pollution, more than 1 million people die from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease every year.
10. Indoor air pollution exists in both urban and rural areas. In order to save building materials, modern houses are often compact in structure, which restricts air circulation and easily leads to indoor air pollution.
Fine particulate matter is usually called PM2.5. It comes from soot waste gas, technological processes and a variety of daily chemical products. Studies have found that it is related to cancer, asthma, infertility and even birth defects3. Particles vary in size, but they can usually be measured as "fine particles" (PM2.5) with a diameter of ≤2.5 or "coarse particles" (PM10) with a diameter between 2.5-10>μm. PM2.5> particles with a diameter of less than 2.5μm are so small that they can be easily inhaled into the lungs and may cause serious health problems, including respiratory and heart diseases. All particles have potential health or well-being risks, and their threats are well documented. In the United States, the California Environmental Protection Agency's Air Resources Board (ARB) written documents show that short-term and long-term exposure to particulate matter can cause harmful health effects. Scientists have found that during periods of high PM concentration, the hospitalization rate, emergency room visit rate, and doctor visit rate for respiratory diseases or heart diseases are higher. During periods of high PM levels, scientists also found that symptoms of asthma and acute and chronic bronchitis worsened. High PM levels are related to the reduction of various health functions of the human lungs.
Particulate matter in the air has a greater impact on infants and young children. The analysis of data from the California Environmental Protection Agency's Air Resources Board (ARB) children's study shows that particulate matter also has an impact on children's health. The study showed that in communities with severe PM pollution, children’s lungs develop slowly, and the efficiency of air transport is not as high as that of children’s lungs in clean air communities.
