4pin fan
Because 3pin fans did not solve the problem of fan speed adjustment very well, Intel and other manufacturers later introduced new speed regulation specifications, upgrading from 3pin to 4pin, and the extra line is called PWM line, which is pulse width modulation. . The color of the line is generally black, yellow, green and blue or black, red, yellow and blue. The common point is that the blue is the PWM line, and the black is the ground line.
The 4pin fan voltage is constant, and the fan speed is adjusted through the PWM mechanism. The PWM pulse signal can output different duty ratios, so different fan speeds can be adjusted according to actual needs, which is more accurate and flexible, and the fan with PWM mechanism does not need to rely on the motherboard. BIOS (not independent of the motherboard), there are also classifications of PWM at present, vulgar PWM and high-speed PWM. Generally speaking, the overall performance of high-speed PWM is the best.
Precautions
Even if you buy a fan with a 4pin interface, pay attention to whether the motherboard is controlled by PWM. Some 4pin fans still cannot be adjusted after they are connected to the motherboard, so the problem is the motherboard. When buying a motherboard, look at the manual or understand the relevant parameters of the motherboard in advance. If NC/VCC is mentioned, it does not support PWM speed regulation. At present, it is the best choice to choose a 4pin fan that supports PWM speed regulation and PWM function.
